If you could point to one thing that is holding you back in life right now, what would it be?
Is there that one thing that you feel is holding you back?
If only I could……
be a better parent.
save my marriage.
get control of my finances.
The things that we perceive as holding us back often seem like a huge mountain that we could never climb.
Years ago many mountains were actually thought to be unclimbable – until someone climbed them.
I watched a documentary last night about Zach Sobiech (posted at the top of the page). He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, and was told that he only had months to live.
Impossible obstacle right?
Not to Zach. He lived more in those months than many live in their entire lives.
He brought a smile to everyone he came in contact, and he is still inspiring through his music even though he passed away earlier this year.
After watching his story, all of my so called “problems” didn’t seem so big anymore.
On top of that, I realized most of my problems are something I’ve created, and of which I generally have direct control.
What I say I want in life and what I do are often misaligned.
I say I want to be in shape, but I continue to eat horribly and avoid the gym.
I say I want a better marriage, but often I lose focus of “us” and do what’s best for “me”.
I tell myself that I am going to take control of my finances only to overspend yet again.
Often my failures discourage me to the point of giving up – until I hear a story of someone like Zach.
He didn’t let a small obstacle like death get in his way.
He fought to the end. Not to beat death. But to put a smile on the face of everyone he came in contact with.
We all struggle in different areas. Whatever it is for you, why wait to make a change?
Time is not something we are promised. A truth that Zach came to realize.
Like Zach Sobiech, strive everyday to be all that you can be, in spite of your situation.
What mountain will you climb today?
