Have you ever felt like giving up? Like you didn’t even belong on the same playing field as everyone else.
Maybe you started out full of motivation only to end up as deflated as a two week old balloon.
That’s been me for the last few months.
Last week during a mastermind group I was able to share my frustration.
Turns out I wasn’t alone.
Everyone on the call had felt at one time as I currently did.
After our meeting I had a whole new outlook on my current situation.
Here are 3 things I learned about combatting these feelings.
1. Have a defined goal. Without a defined goal, there is no way to determine a real win. It’s good to work hard, but unless you are working towards a goal, you are setting yourself up for burnout.
Steven Covey once said, “If the ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step we take just gets us to the wrong place faster.”
2. Small wins lead to big gains. Everyone wants the big win. In our microwave dinner society, anything that doesn’t come immediately seems inconvenient.
We focus so much on the big wins that we often miss out on the small wins that actually make those big wins possible.
Breaking tasks into smaller chunks makes that big project seem more attainable.
3. Never give up! The only way you lose is if you quit. Winning isn’t just doing the big things. Winning is moving forward. Winning is not quitting when everyone else does.
To steal a line From the movie A League of Their Own, “It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard…is what makes it great.”
Keep going. Even when it’s hard.
If you watched yesterday’s NFC Championship game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers (or have been on the internet at all) then you know that the Seahawks came from behind to win in overtime.
Down 16-0 at halftime, they didn’t give up.
They knew they were the better team. They kept going, and they won.
Why not you?
It doesn’t matter what happened yesterday, last week, or last month. Today is a new day.
Have a defined goal, get a small win, and never give up.
That’s how the Seahawks won yesterday, and that’s how you can win today!
Do you find this to be true? What small win can you claim today?
